Sleep is an activity necessary for our longevity. A good night’s sleep keeps us refreshed, energized and feeling good in the morning. Health advisers would often say that an adult should get an average of 7 to 9 hours of sleep a day to get adequate rest for our body. But there are times when we sleep for 8 hours and still wake-up feeling like we haven’t slept a wink. This is probably caused by poor sleeping habits or poor sleep environment.
One factor that can help us get a good night sleep is making sure that our bedroom is conducive to sleep. Several aspects that we can consider are cleanliness, room temperature, noise level, lighting and most of all beddings. A comfortable mattress can do wonders for our sleep. Unlike the old times where mattresses were uniformly sold, we now have a wide variety of mattresses to suit our health needs and comfort.
There are 4 common types of mattresses that we can choose from:
-
Spring Mattress. The most common mattress in the market today, it makes use of spring coils or inner coils to provide strong support.
-
Foam Mattress. There are two types of foam mattress, Memory foam mattress and Latex foam mattress. Foam mattresses are known for their durability and orthopedic benefits. Allergy prone people might also get foam mattresses made from natural materials.
-
Air Mattress. These mattresses use air pockets instead of springs or coils for support. It gives you the flexibility of adjusting the density of your bed by controlling the amount of air pumped in. This means that you can pump less air on one side of your mattress to make it softer that the other side, just perfect for both your needs.
-
Water Mattress. Water beds as it was referred to in the 70’s, is the least popular of the four due to risks of water leakage. Modern water mattresses improved its quality to minimize occurrence of leakage. A good water mattress can provide you with the comfort that you need. It allows you to tailor fit your bed’s softness or hardness by adjusting the amount of water you put in.
Each person has a different sleeping style, therefore your bed preference is a personal choice. Whether it’s spring, foam, air or water mattress, make sure you test your mattress before purchasing it.
